Mitch Thrower
Chairman Mitch Thrower is a financier, entrepreneur, author and 22X Ironman triathlete.
He is the Founder and Chairman of Events.com, the leading provider of cloud-based applications for event and participant management that includes Activity Registration, Ticketing, Affinity Management, Content Management, Business Analytics, and Customer Outreach. The Events.com global event portal publishes millions of events from thousands of venues worldwide accessible through mobile and social channels. Events.com provides highly adaptable, accessible and reliable applications to manage, market and monetize an event or activity. Thrower also serves as Chairman of The La Jolla Foundation, a 501c3 foundation whose primary initiative is Project Active, providing funding, mentoring, encouragement and education to areas of world tension. Specifically — sending sports equipment to children in war zones. Thrower Co-Founded of active.com (The Active Network, Inc.). He also launched ActiveEurope.com (Active Europe Network) as Co-Founder and CEO. Active went public before selling to Vista for 1.05 billion. Thrower was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Triathlete Magazine, the world's largest triathlon magazine where he also served as Chairman. He has also served as the Chief Interactive Officer, Strategist & Senior Correspondent for the Competitor Group (CGI), the active lifestyle industry's leading media and event entertainment company. Thrower spoke at his university graduation at St. Lawrence University, and has lectured at many colleges such as Stanford University, Anderson School at UCLA, UCSD and the University of San Diego where he served as the "Entrepreneur in Residence" teaching Entrepreneurship. Thrower is an active member of TED.com and the Executive Producer of TEDxLaJolla, an independently organized TED event. He is the Author of "The Attention Deficit Workplace: Winning Strategies for Success in Today's Fast-Paced Business Environment," published by Lyons Press and he was author of the popular monthly column, "Starting Lines" in Triathlete Magazine for more than a decade. He was also co-author of the travel guide "The Passport" which, for several years was distributed to 50,000 college students before traveling abroad each year. In 1990, Thrower co-founded his first company and served as CEO of The College/Rail Connection, Inc., serving American Express, AT&T, and Eurail until he sold the venture in 1997. Thrower holds a bachelor's degree from Saint Lawrence University and an MBA from the University of San Diego. He has competed in 22 Ironman Triathlons, including 13 World Championships. He is the only photo journalist to ever photograph and film the Ironman Triathlon World Championships while competing in the event. Currently a resident of La Jolla, CA, Thrower is an East Coast native whose father, Fred Thrower was a television pioneer as Vice President of NBC, and also as president of WPIX-TV in New York City and is known for his holiday creation of the televised "Yule Log." Thrower's mother, Lori, worked as an assistant for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in NYC. |
Amanda Thrower
Chief Operating Officer Amanda is a writer, runner, and triathlete.
Always drawn to the the stories of everyday people, Amanda pursued a path of journalism after earning a B.A. in English from Michigan State University. She began her career at Bloomberg in New York. A year and a half later, she moved to California to write and produce stories for NBC San Diego—at three in the morning. Stuck between the rigid confines of reporting news and her desire to paint the world more profoundly than 30-second sound bites offered, she transitioned into a marketing role where she applied her creativity to several ventures. Managing brand identity, press releases, and marketing, she has enjoyed transforming thought into form. Along with her husband Mitch Thrower, Amanda is the Executive Producer of TEDxLaJolla, an independently organized TED event. She is co-chair of The La Jolla Foundation. She recently graduated from Columbia University with her MFA in Fiction Writing. Currently, she is writing a historical fiction novel based on a female journalist in post-WWII China. |
Kimberly Blake-Roth
Director Kimberly studied Anthropology, Government, and Linguistics, prior to earning her MA in International Educational Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University. Early in her career, she worked for international development banks (World Bank/ IFC) on structured finance contracts in Higher Education. She was later hired by Deloitte Consulting’s National Higher Education practice to lead the administrative design and development of a new, private university in Istanbul, Turkey, for the Sabanci Family/ Holding. Prior to joining LJHC in 2020, Kimberly worked as a Fine Art Advisor to UHNW/ family office clients building investment-quality fine art portfolios. Kimberly has worked with and alongside LJHC since her early involvement with The Active Network. Kimberly is addicted to the energy and vibe of young, growing tech companies and works to translate that energy into compelling stories that drive investment. Her passion for nurturing business relationships with investors and founders is at the heart of what she brings to LJHC. |
.Stephen Partridge
Principal, Partner, and Investor Stephen Partridge is a multi-talented entrepreneur based in Ottawa, Canada and San Diego, California. Stephen also serves as the President and Co-Founder of Events.com, which is an international event-software company. Stephen was also the former CEO and Managing Partner of EventsOnline.ca, which was Canada’s leading online registration provider for participatory sport. Additionally, he is the President of Im2Media (an international IT-consulting and investment company) and a Board Member of Startup Canada (Canada’s leading entrepreneurial support organization). What especially reflects Stephen's diverse entrepreneurial background is the fact that he has travelled this vast world for sport, business, and pleasure, and has an international focus in every single aspect of his life. When it comes to his personal life, Stephen is proud father of three boys and an avid waterman who absolute loves swimming, sailing, and windsurfing (to name a few). At one point, he was also a Canadian Olympic hopeful in Swimming, an Ironman, and an ITU triathlete. |
Anne Powers
Alumni Anne is a technology enthusiast, athlete and leader.
Now at Sales Force in San Francisco, Anne covered the US, European and Asian investment markets for La Jolla Holding Co. Prior to joining, Anne worked in publishing and technology for Rivera Magazine and Trinity Technologies Inc., respectively. She was also the associate producer of TEDxLaJolla, an independently organized TED event, and a volunteer at La Jolla Foundation, Inc. Anne holds BA in Communication Studies with a minor in Philosophy from the University of San Diego. |
